my big adventure
Four some reason finding decent avocados is a difficult task. Another problem with avocados is consistency. In other words quite often I end up being reasonably satisfied with the avocado that I eventually eat, but it's sort of a different experience every time along the way. Here's some of my examples.
the avocado was green. That was a bummer. Green avocados are tough and taste green.
The avocado is green when you buy it and it ripens at home. This has varied results. Sometimes they are perfect, sometimes bruised and yucky brown.
Buy it ripe and ready to eat. Generally this is good, but sometimes with bruises.
Knowing it's ripe is a challenge, but the more you buy the more you learn. The color is important, but not totally conclusive. The firmness is useful, but hard to gauge. Then looking at the stem hole is supposed to help, but not me.
When someone makes buying a perfect avocado as reliable as buying perfect radishes, we will all rejoice. Some rich company will profit, and the person who made it all happen will die broke. Nobody said this was fair. At least not me.
